During the winter months it is advisable to drip warm or hot water from your pipes before you go to bed at night. It is also a good idea to open your cabinets to allow warmer air to circulate near your pipes.  This will help prevent the pipes from freezing.  If you plan to be away during the winter you may want to consider leaving your thermostat on 60 degrees and the cabinet doors open if you think there might be a freeze while you are gone.
